Question:

NLHE: How weak are two pairs?

After betting the house on mid and bottom pair and taking more than my fair share of beats, I was wondering: how vulnerable is two pair?

Example:

2h 3h

flop: Ah 2c 3c

Vs the club flush draw, I'm probably at around 25-50% to win the hand here. However, what if my opponent

has:

4c 4s or a higher pair

Ax 4->Kx

2x or 3x plus a higher card

an unmade straight draw

The hands I've been getting beat by are usually higher pocket pairs hitting trips or the flush (although the times i get beat by the flush seem to balance out by the times i hit the fh.) Rarely, I get beat by the oddball straight. However, I also rarely get hit by a higher two pair, although percentage wise this should be the most common.

  1. against 4c4s you are 60.859% to win

    against Ad4c you are 61% to win

    against 2x or 3x plus a higher card you are 71% to win

    against AcXc you are 50/50

    vs a club draw no A you are 60%]

    so you are still a favorite in every scenario you named, maybe just not as much of a favorite as you remember
