Question:

NO SOUND! Classic taskbar!?

Out of nowhere, the taskbar went to Classic view. And then I realized I had no sound, except for the "bleep" the system makes. No sound in Internet, Media Player, etc. When I tried to adjust the sound it said there are no Audio Devices.

PLEASE HELP.

  1. As for the classic mode thing,  Look for something like Control Panel>Customize desktop>Settings>Theme. You should find the look of Windows you want back, so click on that.

For the audio, I'm guessing something must have happened that caused the audio device driver to fail or dissappear. Go to start menu>run, type devmgmt.msc, press Enter.

If you find a device with a yellow triangle warning sign, that`s probably the audio device so you can select it and update driver software.

  2. try using safari instead of internet explorer the same thing happened to me and when i used safari i got sound

  3. Go to control panel. then to Display. In that box, click on the 'Appearance' tab then change the drop down menu saying 'Windows And Buttons' from 'Windows Classic Style' to 'Windows XP style'

If the sound doesn't come back, make sure the audio devices' software (if there is any for the speaker etc.) is installed properly or it hasn't been deleted. If that doesn't work, go to Control Panel and then go to Sounds And Audio Devices. Then in the window click on the Hardware tab and check the list for the device. if you cannot find it look at troubleshoot or the properties button.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Well, you can try reinstalling the sound hardware.

Press Windows + Pause/Break. Click the Hardware tab, then click Device Manager. In the audio devices section, find your primary sound device. You can use Google to look up each item in the list if you're not sure what it does. When you find your primary sound device, right click it, and click Uninstall. When you're done with that, reboot. Windows will detect the hardware again and attempt to install it.
