NOLE is gonna be number 2 at the end of the year?

If he wins in Cincy, he'll be i guess around 600 points behind Roger and Roger has to defend his US Open and Masters Cup which is around 1650 points in all. I think Roger will succumb again in the US Open and Masters Cup with his confidence very dismal. So Nole can gain points and be number 2 and the end of the year. I don't think he'll conjure enough to be number one.

What do you think guys? i also think from being number 3 at the end of the year, it's totally downhill for Roger. He'll be out of top 5 next year and maybe top 10.

  1. Mathematically there is a possibility. He can gain points if he wins the olympics. He has to defend points at the us open at vienna. He also needs to defend points by reaching the semis of madrid masters he gain points at the paris masters and tennis masters cup.

But if federer suddenly bounced back and have a better performance its likely that he will end up as the number 3 as the year ends.

  2. Roger out of the top 5 or top 10? Absolutely NO, it's ridiculous. Federer might have a slump at the moment, but I do agree with the other poster that he made it look easy for the past 4 years to defend those titles/points which is REALLY not easy. I do respect both Nadal and Djokovic but I do think Federer will regain the number one spot just right after the Olympics and US Open. Federer just have to get his mental game back, an advantage that he has over all the players out there.

Btw, Nadal is only ahead by a few ranking points from Federer, so I will not be surprised if Nadal will only hold that position for a month. Just like Federer, I do admire the beauty of Nadal's game but a lot of people are counting Federer out already which is funny considering that he is a great champion.

  3. I think Nadal and Djokovic have more than Federer to worry about. Other guys are getting more confident too because Federer isn't as confident.  Watch out, when Federer feels like he has nothing to lose and s***w what people think, he's going to win again.  I think next year, the top 3 will definitely fluctuate.  Nadal has to be breaking down and Djokovic is having trouble with the pressure of being on top.  Nadal is going to have to defend points and so will Djokovic.  It's not as easy to stay on top the way Federer made it look.  I believe Federer will regain number 1 again but it will be changing back and forth.  I'm rooting for him because I love his game.  Out of top ten? doubtful he'll have to be injured or something and not play to do that.

  4. I honestly doubt Federer will drop out of the top 5 or top 10. But as far as Djokovic goes, for the time being, I can't say he'll be No. 2 at year's end. There's still 5 major events (Olympics, US Open, Madrid, Paris, Masters Cup) left, so there's still plenty of tennis to be played. Sure he's played great tennis, but it has to be consistent for the rest of the year.

Despite Federer's struggles, NEVER count him out!!!! If he gets himself together, Djokovic had better watch out!! And as for Nadal, despite Nole having just beat him, when he's more rested and relaxed, Nole better also watch out, because Nadal will want swift revenge!!!!

I'm no Djokovic fan, but I respect his game. I hope for his sake he can do less talking, and let his racquet do the talking for him. With that being said, I expect him to finish 2008 still ranked 3 in the world. I'm expecting Federer and Nadal to do whatever it takes to keep him as far behind them as possible.

  5. Novak will not finish no.2. Nadal will be no.1 on August 18th (and finish the year in this position) and Roger will finish at no.2 - there is no way Fed will allow himself to drop another place in the rankings.

  7. Maybe.. no-one can really predict what's going to happen. IF Federer finsihes the year at number three.. it won't all be bad.. sure Federer's my favourite and he HAS done well this year, no matter what others say. He has got to finals in tournaments, even if he hasn't won a grand slam yet. He hasn't won as many points as usual at this stage of the year and he won't have as many to defend next year.

Federer will NOT be out of the top 5 next year. Djokovic, and especially Rafa will have a lot of points to defend next year. More than they would be used to. Federer has made it look so easy the past 4 years to stay on top and it's not as easy as it looks. Federer is still in the game and can still win many tournaments in the furutre. Nadal is going to have to defend points at both the Wimbledon and French next year, and Djokovic at the Australian which means they have less points to gain. If Federer can get his game back on track (which I'm sure he will) he has points to gain and he will probably be bcak in the number one position next year - even if it's just for a little while.

Nadal and Djokovic will also be under a lot of pressure and it will be interesting to watch how it all pans out. Tennis is a mental game just as much as a physical one, and if either of them suffur a few bad losses it will be up to their mental strength to get them back up and winning again.

I think Nadal and Federer are going to challenge each other for the position next year.. and Djokovic will be left to try and get to number two.

Remember Murray won against Djokovic the last time they played (about a week ago) in Toronto.. he could quite easily win again in Cincy. They are all going to have to put in everything they have to win matches now and in the very near future.

It will be great wathcing them battle it out.. even if I will always want Roger to stay on top =]

  8. Dont be surprised if he ends up number one.

I picked him to win this tournament at the beginning and even have him favored to win The Open.

Federer is struggling, though not playing badly.  Nadal is playing way too much, and despite his increased success on hard courts, he cant play continuously on this surface and be successful. His game is not suited for it. Defense is great to have along with a running game, but you cant rely on opponents errors and impatience to win and need to come up with more winners. Especially on this surface. With hard courts remaining, I see Novak making some noise, and come to the seasone nding Championships, could easily win it.

There is always so much talk of Federer and Nadal with rankings, meanwhile all shouldnt be surprised if and when Djokovic sneaks in.
