  1. answer: I think its one of the worst things that could happen to education.  Which Creation Myth are they going to teach kids? Greek? Northern? Hopi? Christian?  All of them? Are people going to teach ALL of them as fact?

Evolution is taught as a theory.  Creationism doesn't even qualify as a scientific theory - merely as myth.

  2. Well, it's just plain wrong.

  3. The fact that evolution is tought in schools makes me sick. There are so many lies it is stupid. Creation should be taught in schools.

  4. Exactly like teaching Numerology as an alternative to Statistics in Math class.

After all, many people believe in lucky numbers and beating the odds... so "teach the controversy", right?

  5. I am a Christian AGAINST intelligent design and creationism tought in schools. I see no biblical basis to apply fallible science to understanding the creation of life on earth. It's not to say that they don't have some answers figured out. But how would they know if they are 100% correct in their doctrine?

But, I'm still an opponent of evolution. I find it too amusing that such ideas often come from people who believe that there should constantly be an equal amount of order and chaos in the world. It's hard to advance mankind with that kind of thinking.

I cannot say that the situation in Darfur, Russia or Iraq, seems like order. If I am going to presume that order will come from it, it will be from loving their neighbor, not having an "Enlightened" white guy kill them and tell them that this is the only way. It is, at best, controlled chaos. There is no order.

  6. Why don't they ever think of what "students" have to say???

Don't school students have opinions anymore???

Are parents the only one with "valid" opinions??

    *****

I am against this idea being implemented in public school...

not because it's hard or annoying like Trigonometry

but because CREATIONISM is a WASTE of time... everyone knows about it we DON'T need to make these children suffer a useless hour of boredom.

  7. I used to think it should but now I am not so sure.

Think: if a teacher that believes in evolution were forced to teach creationism, how do you think he/she would teach it?

"Okay, kids. Your homework is to read Genesis 1-3 and discuss all the mistakes, contradictions, and debunked claims. Extra credit goes to the best one."

"Today we will talk about why creationism is stupid and why evolution is real science."

I was taught evolution constantly at school, but I was never made aware of any problems with it. I never heard criticism of it. I was never made aware of any mistakes, assumptions, or outright lies that were a part of it. Never.

I would like to see science classes teach science. Teaching philosophy is okay, too, but clear distinctions should be made. Oh, I would like to see the lies taken out of the textbooks, too. That would make me happy.

I only have time to give a couple.

Homo Erectus, a.k.a. Java Man, consisted of six bones that didn't even go together: one femur, a skull cap, three teeth, and a jaw fragment. Dr., I say that again, Dr. DuBois knew they did not go together but hid the bones for thirty years. Scholars had to be satisfied with plaster replicas. Dr. Hrdlika of the Smithsonian Institute, after putting much pressure on DuBois, finally saw the real bones and found out that they couldn't possibly fit together.

Moving on to the Grand Canyon, we find layers of rocks. Millions of years, right? Wrong! The Colorado River enters the canyon at a lower elevation than it leaves the canyon. So if it cut out that canyon over millions of years that means rivers flowed uphill in the past.

Whale Evolution. Those two small bones on the underside of that thing are called hind legs that the whale no longer needs. Those bones are used for mating, not walking.

Evolution is unscientific, illogical, and insulting to the intelligence of a thinking person. You don't need a PhD. to figure that out.

Do you disbelieve in the Bible? Do you think you know more than preachers and missionaries who have PhD.s in their field?

  8. Absolutely unacceptable, at least not in the science classrooms.  If it's part of a comprehensive religious studies class then fine, but ID is NOT scientific.

Demanding that the children be exposed to "alternative explanations" is like insisting on teaching "Intelligent Falling" alongside "General Relativity" and "Intelligent Infection" alongside "Germ Theory of Disease".
