NORCECA Beach Circuit reaches third stop in Boca Chica – Volleyball news
After the successful completion of Olympic qualifying tournament, Boca Chica in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic is up for another challenge.
The NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit is scheduled to feature its third event in Boca Chica. The double-gender tournament begins today, Friday, April 22, 2011. A total of 36 beach volleyball duos (20 men’s and 16 women’s) from 17 countries of NORCECA region
will be on board to vie for the top honour of the tournament.
Countries such as Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Canada, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Curazao, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, U.S. Virgin Islands, México, St Kitts & Nevis, Trinidad & Tobago, United States and Puerto Rico have sent their
teams in the tournament.
In the men’s division, the squad of 20 teams will be divided into five pools, while the women’s side will have four pools. The competition will start with first preliminary robin round and it will be followed by the Main Draw. In the robin round, three men’s
duos from each pool will advance to the next stage of the tournament. Likewise, the women’s duos will compete for ranking points in the robin round.
In the men’s section, Mexico’s Aldo Miramontes and Juan Virgen are defending the title this year, while Yarleen Santiago and Dariam Acevedo of Puerto Rico will be tagged as defending champions in the women’s category.
The defending champions in both categories will have the tough challenges. In the previous two events of NORCECA Beach Circuit, Richard Van Huizen and Josh Binstock have worked out a great reputation. They got hold of the goldware at the first NORCECA event
his year. In the next stop of NORCECA in Guatemala, Mexican duo Miramontes/Virgen clinched success in the final match.
On the other hand, the sand of Grand Cayman was rocked by a wonderful performance of American Brooke Hanson and Lauren Fendrick at the first NORCECA event, while Canadians Heather Bansley and Liz Maloney made their mark in the next in Guatemala.
In the third NORCECA Beach Circuit Tournaments, the defending champions will have to work hard to keep their dominance.
