NORCECA Teams to be featured at 2011 FIVB Grand Prix – Volleyball News
The women’s premier international volleyball event, 2011 FIVB Grand Prix, is just around the corner as the campaign is scheduled to run from August 5 to 28 with sixteen teams from across the globe competing. The 2011 FIVB Grand Prix grid of sixteen teams
also includes three teams which will represent North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Federation (NORCECA). Cuba, USA, and Dominican Republic will play under the tag of NORCECA at the 2011 FIVB World Grand Prix.
USA
Initially, the teams will be divided into four pools. U.S. team will be grouped in Pool D along with teams from China, Serbia, and Kazakhstan. Recently, the American team travelled to the Chinese town of Luohe, which is supposed to host the Pool D matches.
The first leg of the tournament will be played from August 5 to 7. In the next run, Team USA will play in Pool H, which will be staged in the Japanese city of Komaki. The U.S. team will be joined by Japan, Serbia, and Dominican Republic in the second week
matches. In the third week, US squad will move to Pool J and meet Italy, Germany, and Peru. Hong Kong will have the chance to host Pool J matches from August 19 to 21.
Team USA will be defending the title this year after they defeated Brazil in the previous edition of the championship and added a third gold medal to their count. Besides, the U.S. team also has two bronze medals in its custody.
Dominican Republic
Dominican Republic is set to open the tournament in Pool A. Poland, Italy, and Argentina are also included in the same group. Polish city Bydgoszcz is responsible for facilitating the Pool A teams in the first week of the competition. In the second week
of 2011 FIVB Grand Prix, Dominican Republic will join Pool H. City of Komaki in Japan will greet Pool H, which consists of Japan, United States, Dominican Republic, and Serbia. In the third week, Dominican Republic will contest its abilities with teams from
China, Poland and Kazakhstan in Pool I.
Dominican Republic is without any medals at the FIVB Grand Prix. They finished in 8th position in 2011 FIVB Grand Prix. It will be a great chance for them to improve their ranking this year.
Cuba
Caribbean team of Cuba is one of the stronger teams in the world. This year, Cubans will open the tournament with Thailand, Peru, and Russia in Pool B. Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, will host the first week games of Pool B. During the next week, the Cuban women
will travel to Poland along with South Korea and Argentina. They will be labelled as Pool E teams and Cuba will enter Pool K in the third week. Cuba will by vying for their third gold medal this year.
