NORCECA announces the schedule of Zonal Beach Volleyball Tournament
The North & Central America and Caribbean Confederation (NORCECA) revealed the schedule of Men’s Central Zone Beach Volleyball Tournament on Tuesday, April 12.
The Federation came up with a final decision at a recent meeting, which was held at the headquarters of NORCECA in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The beautiful beaches of Boca Chica in Santo Domingo will host the thrilling beach campaign on its sands
in the coming week.
The tournament is scheduled to start on Monday, April 18, while a total of 12 beach volleyball duos from the American and Caribbean region will join the action.
Most essentially, the NORCECA Men’s Central Zone Beach Volleyball Tournament is a part of the FIVB Continental Cup. This is the second stage of the qualification process for the 2012 London Olympic Games. In the first run, the aspiring teams appeared in
the sub-zonal tournaments. Some of the scintillating performances were staged during the sub-zonal tournaments, while two top teams from each country were promoted to the next stage of zonal tournament.
As a result the teams from Canada, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico and United States will be on board to reserve their berths in the Continental Cup. The three-day activity will complete its run on 20th April and the final results will be
disclosed on the same day. Following teams have been confirmed to play in the zonal tournament:
Dominican Republic: German Recio/Yewddy Perez and Eduardo Concepción/Francisco Abreu.
Canada: Christian Redmann/Ben Saxton and Martin Reader/Chaim Schalk.
Puerto Rico: Erick Haddock/ Orlando Irizarry and Roberto Rodríguez/Christopher Underwood.
United States: William Strickland/Aaron Wachttogel and Matt McKinney/Steven Vanderwerp.
Cuba: Karel Peña/Javier Jimenez and Yaimel Borrell/Yadrian Escobar.
Mexico: Juan Virgen/Aldo Miramontes and Ulises Ontiveros/Lombardo Ontiveros.
The successful teams of the Zonal Tournament will earn tickets to the Continental Cup, which will send the teams in the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Speaking of the upcoming tournament in Boca Chica, the President of the Dominican Republic Volleyball Confederation Ramon Gracia stated, “We are confident to watch beach volleyball played at its highest level as the best men’s teams of our region will clash
here next week.”
