NRL Star Mat Rogers Crashes the Course
Talk about a crash in the golf course; Mat Rogers literally crashed his golf buggy on the course at Links Hope Island on Monday. This headline probably came as the worst news for Rugby fanatics worldwide but fear not friends, the
NRL walked away from the accident with everything intact. Well, maybe everything except his ego.
The golf buggy crashed while it was transporting Mat Rogers, his son and a friend around the golf course on the Gold Coast. They were actually taking part in Rogers’ Celebrity Golf Classic. The event was for a good cause and was
aimed at raising funds for Roger’s charity, 4ASD Kids.
Roger and his wife Chloe Maxwell had expected the event, which was to be held over the weekend, to raise over $300,000. The charity provides support for children with autism spectrum disorders and ensures that they receive proper
treatment so that they live a normal life.
The tournament was a star-studded affair and all the celebrities were lending their wholehearted support to the cause by donating generously to the charity. However, the bad weather conditions at Sanctuary Cove kept the hosts on
the edge almost the entire time.
In attendance at the event was the famous newsreader Sandra Sully.
"I was meant to start my holidays a couple of days earlier but Oprah was in town," she said.
"It's a shame about the weather. I call my partner the rainman because when I bring him to Queensland it rains."
Sully made sure she was part of the charity event, even though it coincided with her family’s Christmas celebration plans.
The event saw many other celebrities having a good time at the event too. Charlotte Dawson, a judge on Australia’s Next Top Model, flew in especially for the event. She was spotted showing off her singing talent as she belted out
some Guns N’ Roses numbers, which was followed by the game of golf.  Matthew Johns and his wife Trish were seen having a “dance off” with the kids.
Other guests at the event included Corinne Grant, the comedian; former NRL footballer Gorden Tallis; Greg Bird of the Titans; Scott Prince and William Zillman, to name just a few.
