NRL round 26: Dragons cruise past Rabbitohs
The St. George Dragons were able to cruise past the Sydney Rabbitohs at home in WIN Jubliee Stadium over the weekend.
The Dragons displayed their offensive ability in their win over the Rabbitohs on Sunday night. The Dragons got out to an impressive start, racking up tries in the first half to take an astonishing 20 point lead into the break. The Rabbitohs seemed to find their form in the second stanza; however it was too little, too late as the Dragons were able to hold on for a 38-24 victory.
Recap
The Dragons were able to get on the board first with a try from Ben Creagh in the 6th minute. Kyle Stanley was able to put through the conversion to give the home side a quick 6-0 lead.
Creagh was a force early on as he notched his second and third tries of the night in the 9th and 17th minutes respectively. Stanley tacked conversions onto both scores as well as a penalty in the 25th minute to give the Dragons a 20-0 lead.
The Rabbitohs were finally able to counter with a try from Fetuli Talanoa and a conversion from Chris Sandow in the 28th minute, making the score 18-6.
However, the Dragons were not done as Brett Morris crossed the whitewash in the 32nd minute and Stanley kicked his fourth conversion of the game, allowing the home side to take an impressive 26-6 lead into half-time.
The hosts continued to dominate early in the second stanza with a try from Darius Boyd in the 56th minute and a Stanley conversion to further extend the lead to 32-6.
The Rabbitohs attempted to get back into the game with tries from Jamie Simpson and Dylan Farrell in the 61st and 64th minutes respectively. Sandow was able to hit both conversions cutting the lead to 32-18.
However, Matt Cooper burst over the try-line for the Dragons in the 68th minute and Stanley hit a remarkable sixth conversion to put the game out of reach at 38-18.
Eddy Pettybourne would score a fourth try for the Rabbitohs. However, it was too little, too late, as the Dragons were able to cruise to victory.
Analysis
The Dragons locked up first overall with the victory and will face the Sea Eagles in the first round of the post-season.
With the loss, the Rabbitohs were eliminated from play-off contention. The Sydney-siders could not seem to find their form when it mattered at the end of the season and were forced to settle for ninth.
