I Am 5 1/2 foot and weigh 121lbs (55kg), i am moving up to a shortboard and would like to know which one of these begginer sort type shortboards I should get. The NSP 6'6" shortboard or the BIC 6'7" shortboard. i am in the middle of beginner and intermediate. my soft top is too stuff, when i want to do a sharp turn it's like a brick and i just fall off. Thanks for your answers

  1. That's a battle of the junk board popouts if I ever saw one. Bic has far better designs, and the master shapes were designed by some great shapers, like peter pan. Unfortunately, they are machine made, more like boats than surfboards have completely paradoxical riding characteristics.

NSP is made of more conventional materials but they are also mass produced popouts, which even worse are mass produced in Chinese sweatshop conditions. While the materials used are fairly conventional in the surf world of the twenty-first century, the quality of the workmanship is terrible, and like all of thier Chinese cousins, they soon take water and delaminate and rot.

If you really are an intermediate surfer, buy a nice board. There are tons of decent, inexpensive, locally shaped boards on the market and scads of good condition, high quality used boards which can be had for the same of less money than that junk.

  2. Hi dude i have  both a BIC and an NSP my NSP is 6ft fish with a Aqua swirly type design and then I have a 7ft hybrid BIC just plain white I use both of them and there both radical but  i think the NSP is better for sloppy small waves  ( 1-7ft) but it is quite heavy still but its easy to move and the BIC is good for barelling conditions and manouvers (light weight ) and conditions of about 3-6ft so if your a good surfer get the BIC or if your a beginner get the NSP but still both good ,now i use Channel Islands ( Al Merrick ) and my beautiful Webber 5' 7 so yeah choose there both good boards but its up to you mate !

  3. NSP, they are alot better.

  4. well, I would probably go with NSP, but both these brands are used more as a beginners board.

If you've already surfed shortboard, then channel island and al merricks (from the same company as channel islands), is probably the best bet if you want a good quality board. Lost and Rusty are really good brands too.
