What is their role? Particular to do with Real Estate and real Estate agents?

  1. The answer to this question is too long to write in here. Basically businesses in NSW must register with them and they are a source of info for consumers, tenants, landlords and businesses.  I think the Rental Bond Board is either connected or part of them.  Best to check out their website.

    "The primary role of the Office of Fair Trading is to administer consumer protection laws and to look after the rights of consumers. At the same time they advise businesses and traders on fair and ethical practices. The aim is to achieve fairness for all in the marketplace."

    They perform a similar function for real estate but they are also the body responsible for licensing real estate agents.  They have strict standards on who can hold a license:
