NSW Waratahs Dean Mumm ready to rewrite history at Eden Park - Super Rugby News
New South Wales Waratahs’ Dean Mumm is excited about the prospects of chanung his squads losing record at Eden Park.
The Waratahs have a miserable record at the venue as they have won just one match at the ground in last 80 years. The Waratahs lost their previous match to the lowly Blues in the Super Rugby championship, played on April 16 at the ground.
Eden Park is the largest rugby stadium in New Zealand and it will host the final of the current Super Rugby championship on July 9. The venue largely hosts national and international rugby games for major tournament. However, the spot has never suited the
Waratahs and it seem it has become a psychological block for the club.
Dean Mumm, who rejoined the Waratahs in 2007, is hopeful to shatter the curse of Eden Park for his team. Talking to the media on June 21, Mumm admitted the fact that Waratahs had never performed well at Eden Park. He said that, “We don't have a super record
at Eden Park, but I suppose the good thing is that the win that we've had was in recent times. A number of the guys that played in that game ... that win over there ... are still playing now. I don't think it's so much of a hoodoo as it's been made out to
be.”
He further said that things have changed to a great extent and the Waratahs have built a better side. Mumm stated that, "We're certainly confident of our ability to go there and play well and I think that's what our focus needs to be on .We've had a number
of changes every week throughout the year and having a different line-up from the previous week is nothing different for us."
The Waratahs ended their Super Rugby round matches with the fifth position on the points table. They won their ten clashes after 16 outgoings in the season but they remained winless in their overseas fixtures. The squad will need to go all out to finally
secure an overseas victory and continue in the play-offs.
