NSW Waratahs’ Wycliff Palu demands full match against the Highlanders - Super Rugby News
The Waratahs player, Wycliff Palu, is excited about their upcoming Super Rugby clash against the Highlanders on Saturday, June 11. The back rower has asked the management to provide him a full-match opportunity against the Highlanders. The game has great
significance for both teams because the winner will make their place in the play-off stage of the tournament.
Wycliff Palu made his Super Rugby career start for the Waratahs in 2005 and has played 58 games for his side. The flanker has also played for the Wallabies national side in 36 matches although he has remained in and out of the Waratahs throughout his international
Super Rugby career. He participated in only a few games for the derby in the so far played Super Rugby competition due to an old hamstring injury. The fresh injury ruled him out for an indefinite period during the ninth round of Super Rugby.
According to the reports the flanker has not completely recovered from the injury and management may include him as a replacement. However, he was hopeful to be given full match time in the all important match.
He told the reporters in an interview that his injury has recovered to great a extent and he expects full game against the Highlanders. He added, “My aim, if I start, is to try to play 80 and after getting two weeks of good running in, I feel like I can.
Hopefully I can bring some energy and some enthusiasm to the boys. It's been pretty hard to watch considering you see a lot of the boys getting injured and you want to help.”
At the same time Waratahs coach Chris Hickey has not given the green signal to the flanker and said, “He's in really good shape but it's different to match fitness so it will be really a matter of just assessing him, how he's going. We're really only going
to get two training sessions this week anyhow, so it's not as if those players are going to miss a lot of stuff.”
The Waratahs will take on the Highlanders in a must-win game on June 11, in their next Super Rugby clash.
