NSW Waratahs coach Chris Hickey eyes fourth place in Super Rugby table
With Super Rugby reaching its conclusion, campaigners are making desperate efforts to make their positions firm in the semi-final stages. Waratahs’ coach Hickey has also reiterated his determination to put his team among the top four sides of the current
season after playing the remaining round matches. He claimed today on May 25th, that his unit has got the potential to qualify for the play-offs.
The Waratahs are currently placed on the fifth overall position on the points table with eight victories after 12 outgoings in the championship. They have accumulated 45 points in the matches played so far, and are only three behind the fourth position holders,
Crusaders. Waratahs, on the other hand are just two points ahead of the Sharks and Highlanders. The South African derby, Stormers and Christchurch based Crusaders are level on points with 48 under their belts.
The Waratahs are required to grab two consecutive victories in the current leg of the South African tour against the Sharks and Bulls. They will take on the Sharks on May 28th, in Durban and a win would lift them further up on the tables.
Meanwhile, the fourth seed Crusaders are having a very good season. Recently, they have been further buoyed because of their best players making it back into the side after various injuries, which may add to the worries of the Waratahs.
Talking to the reporters today morning, Chris Hickey asked his side to get ready for a nail biting contests in South Africa. Inspiring his team he said, “If we can pick up both those games I think even a fourth place is not out of the question. But one game
at a time, so we'll just keep our focus on the Sharks and do our best to come away with a win that just puts us a little bit further away from them. This is one of those games I think that's pivotal to both teams.”
Hickey further said that, "The Bulls and the Sharks still have to play each other in the last round as well, so like most years, it could come down to the results over that last round."
The coach also said that Waratahs have a strong defense which would help them to put the oppositions under pressure in the forthcoming crucial matches.
