NSW Waratahs crush Lions 29-12 with five tries in the first half - Super Rugby news
New South Wales Waratahs have crush the Lions by 29-12 in a Super Rugby match played in Sydney, on May 21st. The Waratahs scored five tries in the first part of the match to win the ninth match of the current Super Rugby championship.
The Waratahs made two changes to their side as their hooker, Tatafu Polota-Nau, made a comeback from an injury and Pat McCutcheon missed the match due to ankle injury. South African derby, Lions, also made one change in their starting line-up as their inside-centre,
Grange, returned to the side after the absence of one match.
Kurtley Beale, of New South Wales Waratahs, combined well with Lachlan Turner to break through the Lions defence. He crossed over in the corner untouched to put his side into the lead right in the first minute of the match. The Lion’s fullback, Jaco Taute,
paid back in the same fashion to level the score in the 14th minute of the game. He dived on to the ball after following up a fine grubber kick by Butch James.
Sosene scored another try for the Waratahs and took the lead once again over the Lions. Beale shined again as he scored for his side on a conversion succeeded by Cross’s try.
Meanwhile, Lions player Deon van Rensburg was sent off the field for kneeing down the Waratahs player at a ruck. The Waratahs put a full stop to the Lions and they could not add any points for the remainder of the first half. The Waratahs increased their
lead to 29-5 at the interval as they scored five tries and two conversions in the first part of the game whereas Lions could only manage to score one try until the midway break.
The match was turning in to a scrappy affair after the break as both sides played negative rugby for almost 15 minutes in the second half. Dylan des Fountain broke the ice in the 70th minute of match with a nice try which was followed by an excellent
conversion in the next minute.
The New South Wales Waratahs were leading the game with 29-12 when the final whistle was blown.
