The toss was won by NSW and their captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Moises-Henriques-c2021 decided to bat first. The pitch appeared to be batting friendly, and there was not much assistance for the bowlers in it.
NSW started the innings with star players http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phillip-Hughes-c2185 and David Warner. However, both players were out early and didn’t trouble Victoria. Warner got out after striking a couple of boundaries and scored 10 runs. The third wicket fell early as well, when
wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Smith-c1313 got out with the total on 28.
A 41-run stand between Pakistani born http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Khawaja-c2729 and Henriques then took the team out of trouble. The captain of the NSW team scored 20 runs in 12 balls before he got out. His wicket was followed by another soon after, and all of a sudden NSW were 69
for the loss of five wickets.
Khawaja and Steve O’Keefe didn’t bother about the sudden fall of wickets and continued scoring runs at a brisk pace. The pair scored half centuries and helped the team to reach a decent total of 168. Khawaja was the innings top-scorer with 65 runs while
Steve scored 50 runs.
Dirk Nannes and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Pattinson-c1653 looked menacing with the ball for Victoria. They managed figures of three for 23 and three for 22 respectively. Peter Siddle was expensive and gave away 44 runs in four overs.
The start to the Victorian innings was exceptional as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aaron-Finch-c881 scored freely. He has been in terrific form since he scored his maiden half century against England in the second Twenty20.
Victoria were 100 for 1 in the 12th over but they started losing wickets from then onwards. Finch was dismissed after scoring a brilliant 53 off 37 balls. The middle order collapsed and the team could only manage 151 in their allotted 20 overs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Hill-c1955 provided some hope for Victoria with a gritty 16 before getting out.
The result will been very disappointing for the Victorian team, as they were in a strong position in the game after the first 11 overs.
Sean http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abbott-c41507, Scott Coyte and Steve O’Keefe took two wickets each for NSW and restricted the batsmen from scoring freely.
O’Keefe was named as the man-of-the-match for his all-round performance in the game. He scored runs when NSW were under pressure and then took wickets at crucial stages.
