Australian cricketer Simon Katich, who suffered a mild concussion and bruising as a result of deflected shot onto his face, was cleared of any skull fracture on Tuesday.
The 36-year old, who is currently playing for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 at the Bellerive Oval on Monday. He was treated on the ground,
but ended up leaving the field of play due to the injury.
"Simon has had provisional x-rays which have cleared him of any fracture to the area," confirmed NSW physiotherapist, Murray Ryan. "He has soft tissue bruising above the left eye with a mild concussion."
The Blues’ batsman got lucky when he was dropped at 12 by Tasmania’s Mark Cosgrove, and went on to score 46 runs before retiring. At the time of his departure, the score was 158/3, and NSW ended up declaring their innings at 7 for 341 on the first day of
their ongoing 4-day First Class match against the Tigers.
The former Test opener came into the spotlight last year when he was not offered a national contract by the Australian selectors amid a storm of controversy. He publicly accused skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 of purposely ending his career due to a dressing room
tussle, which took place after the 2009 Sydney Test, when Katich took hold of the then vice-captain’s throat during a petty argument.
The allegation was denied by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120, who said that the comments were detrimental to the morale of the team. As a result, the Aussie left-hander faced a disciplinary hearing for violating Cricket Australia’s (CA) Code of Behaviour in December 2011.
Katich pleaded guilty at the hearing, and was given an official reprimand by CA. Commenting on the ugly incident; the player claimed that he was glad it was over. “From that point of view I said what I said, but at the end of the day now I just want to move
forward and play some good cricket for New South Wales and put this behind me," the Test batsman said late last year.
