  1. If you want to use them both together you'll need a router. If not both at the same time then just plug in the e net cable to your laptop. I've been doing this since June. (15m e net cable leading to other room) You will have to turn off the Virgin modem first to reset connection.

Saved on the price of a router, the 15 meter e net cable was under £4 with free delivery from Amazon.

Plus if you use the dreadful PC Guard you can still use use it (on up to 3 PCs.) Now you don't have to load the cd Rom as it's done over the net with your account details.

  2. Having worked for Telewest Broadband for 3 1/2 years until the merger was completed back in 2007 to be Virgin Media from NTL:Telewest

I can help you with this

You need a belking or Netgear router which is not essential but most popular branded routers

It has to be a DSL router and not ADSL

ADSL = Coper Wire aka BT Broadband

DSL = Fiber Obtics (Digital) aka Virgin Media

The UK has only 1 Major DSL connection and thats Virgin Media enhence the marketing campaign being about

    "The mother of all broadbands"

Fiber optics allows for a constant level of service where as coper wiring fades the speed off the further away you are from the Exchange.

You can purchase them from PC World, From Virgin Media directly, but you might preffer looking on Ebay for a cheap deal as they can be mailed from abroard as long as the electrical current is set to British Standards and has a british style plug

Also ensure your computer is meeting the minimum spec for both the internet connection (windows 98 SE or higher) and that it meets that of the router CPU speed and Memory

    Warning though!

Make sure you have a network addapter and if you have problems make sure you revert back to your direct connection as the router and PC is classified as your equipment so Virgin Media will not supply free help and advise for helping you sort problems out with your own machiene, they will however help for free when its a problem caused by their equipment (TheVirgin Media  modem or cables supplying the connection) as that is classified as their equipment and responsible for ensuring its in working condition to be able to supply the service.

The PC would be your equipment so you would be responsible for maintaining it and ensuring its in working conditions

  3. Have alook around on this page

Good luck u need a wireless hub and a wireless pen stick if your laptop dont have wireless card built-in or u could just plug the cable from your internet to pc into your laptop if u dont want to spend money and dont want wireless.

    Well Good Luck
