NTL:Home Broadband & NetGear Problem?

The aim of what i'm doing is to supply my house with Wireless broadband....

I have an NTL:Home Broadband Internet Cable Modem, which is currently connected to my Desktop by USB.

This morning i bought a NetGear Super-G Wireless Cable Router.

I've installed the USB Dongle that comes with the wireless router and it connects fine and all is ok there. the problem comes with the cable modem. i had to disconnect it from the computer (Obvously), and instead of using the USB connection cable i had to use the Ethernet cable that came with the Wireless Routerto connect it to the Router. but the internet won't work at all. its as if the cable modem doesn't have a clue that it is connected by Ethernet.

it has a light on the front to show how its connected (USB if connected by USB and ENET if connected by Ethernet) but the ENET light isn't on at all.

any ideas what's goin on and how to solve this?

i woz thinking maybe a USB to Ethernet adaptor?

  1. The ethernet cable that came with the router should work fine to connect it to the cable modem.  Turn off all the devices (modem & router).  Plug the ethernet cord from the cable modem to the router while both are still off.  Turn on the modem only. wait until it goes online, then turn on the router; give it about 1 minute to fully turn on, and check to see if the ethernet light comes on.
