NTSC Hi8 Conversion?

I lived in the States (98-02) and bought a Sony Hi8 camcorder (can't remember model) and after burning 15 tapes, had the bugger nicked. To this, I still have the tapes and would like to now capture them digitally with a view (forgive the pun) to burning them to DVD at some stage.

I have suitable software and a decent capture-card (will convert from NTSC-PAL/AVI) but it's the camcorder I'm having trouble with.

I tried a mate's Sony TRV64E but it had problems with the quality and colour whereas another mate's Sony TRV78E fared slightly better.

Therefore, does anyone know (experience or other) of the best camcorder out there that could possibly suit my requirements?

You need to play it with a NTSC camcorder a European PAL model won't do. Then convert to PAL on your PC. Try EBay.

Your best bet would be to rent a Hi8 VTR with tracking control.
