  1. MAYBE

  2. PAL is easy to edit than the NTSC you need special editing tools to do it in most of the case and you need a TV that support the system you are playing. so if you have a TV that does not support the NTSC you will need PAL and VS VRS

  3. yea pal is for europe and stuff and ntsc is for Usa. Get an ntsc like the people said above and also if your geting a 1000, you should get another cheap miniDV camera because the 1000s are old and you dont want to wear out the heads by replaying on them so consider getting a small miniDV camera to use as a capture camera.

  4. NTSC and PAL are broadcast formats.  NTSC is US, Korea, etc.  PAL is England.  Uploading to a computer will not be a problem.  If you burn things to disk you need to ensure you use the appropriate format.

  5. Hmmm... the VX1000 is like 13 years old. This was Sony's first DV camcoder with Firewire transfer, so you should have no problem transferring video to a modern PC with Firewire interface. Video on the camcorder is transferred via some kind of "capture" program, but it's more like a file transfer in that you're captured video is exactly what's on the tape, unless something goes wrong.

The NTSC vs. PAL issue is based on which model of the camcorder you have. Since this is a digital camcorder, the only real relation to broadcast is in the digital format: PAL encodes 720x576 at 50 fields per second, interlaced... NTSC encodes 720x480 at 60 fields per second, interlaced.

Unless you're getting this for a song and dance (eg, little money), I would definitely consider a more modern camcorder.
