Is this right?

1. An IV of LR 1000 ml. with 20 units Pitocin is to be infused @ 150 ml/hr. using 10 gtt./ml. tubing. How many

gtts./ min.?

Formula: Amt. to be infused X gtt. factor/ min.

150 X 10/60min

= 25 gtts./ min.

  1. be sure if it is an infant you use the diluted medicine you all seem to get that wrong too often  


  2. Your answer is correct.  

    The other issue of course is to know how much of the medication the patient is receiveing and to recognize if it is a safe dose.

    So in this case, there are 20 units Pitocin in 1000 cc, which = 1 unit of pitocin in 50 ml, the patient is therefore receiving 3 units of pitocin per hour. From my understanding (I am not an ObGyn nurse) this is within the expected dosage range.
