I have tried now on 4 different computers to download my movie.... I have also taken it to d**k Smiths and JB to see if they can get a computer to recognise that the camera is attached... The computers all say that there is no device attached...I'm using a firewire and have also tried another firewire incase that was faulty to no avail... I;ve been to panasonic to try and find the drivers and download them with no success... What else can I do to get my film onto the computer??? Desperately searching for help..

Thanks Jen

  1. You are not alone. Firewire cables are picky little things; sometimes they only work when you follow this specific procedure:

        1) insert the firewire into the firewire port- usually in the back of the computer.

        2) Making sure the camcorder is OFF, insert the other end of the firewire into the firewire port into the camcorder (sometimes called iLink). The computer may be on though

        3) turn on the camcorder to the VCR mode. If the computer does not recognize automatically, try launching the program anyway (Windows Movie Maker or whatever) and go to the capture menu.

If the camcorder has its power on when being hooked up to the firewire cable already connected to the computer with power, it will short out! I have lost firewire cables like this, but I am not to sure if it can short out the camcorder too. I hope this isn't your case, but if it is, all I can say is to have the firewire port in your camcorder repaired.

    Good Luck
