We are going on an Alaskan cruise in July through the N.W. Passage and hope to be able to use the balcony but can only see out one side of the ship at a time. Going Northbound, which side should we choose, port, left or starboard, right.

  1. Starboard if you want to see the landscape. I know people who suggest if you're going roundtrip and traveling with another couple/family to get cabins on each side of the ship so that you can see all the sights on both legs of the trip.

  2. I have been on 19 cruises to Alaska and booked for 3 this season and have yet to take a balcony cabin. Why pay up to $500.oo more each for aroom that you are not going to spend that much time in ? The scenry is so out of this world you will want to see as much as you can (on deck) everything happens on deck plus, when in port do you plan on staying in your room ? Many who have taken balcony cabins complain for the same reason you given. Most ports you arrive by 7am disembark by 7:30. With the night life, casino's, movies are you really going to be in your room that much ?

    Either way ENJOY.

  3. The ship docks on the starboard side as I recall so I would recommend that as you see everything better its the first to see all the attractions when you first get into port.
