NY Islanders???

i know nothing about hockey, my friend is an islanders fan. he claims it's pronounced I-LAND-ERZ. i thought it was IZ-LAND-EERZ. could someone give us the right answer, i know i'm right but he is sure that he is. thanks

I just glimpsed on wikipedia and it seems to be that it comes from the anchient mayans who would search for days in hopes of striking a deer with an arrow. They were a large part of the land civilization as well. Proving to be the Iz-Land-Eerz as you sound typed it. Hope this helps you win your case!! :0)
