Sometimes when I drive with my dad he either wants to put his own station or no music at all. In NY and NJ, can I drive with headphones in both ears?

Thanks

  1. The driver should be able to hear what's going on around them. If it isn't a law, it should be.

  2. Yes it is illegal to drive while wearing headphones... in most states wearing them on any ear is illegal. There are many reasons for this.

    1. To protect your safety, because your ability to hear things is lessoned. You maybe unable to hear a car with a certain horn warning you, to try to prevent an accident ect.

    2. Your hearing being impaired because your ears are covered with a headphone set with music whether its blasting or not , may prevent you from hearing the sirens for the ambulance or police to get out of the way in emergencies. Being able to hear them sirens at the soonest time is safer than at the last minute.

  3. driving with head phones is illegal  because of safety

  4. No wearing them is illegal.
