Question:

NYC fish tank background?

Anyone know where I can find a background that looks like Manhattan for a 55 gallon fish tank?

I'm also looking for run-down cars or taxis....maybe even a toy Statue of Liberty, or the Empire State Building.

I found some diecast taxis, but is safe to put in a fish tank? If not, does anyone know where I can find plastic toy taxis and buildings?

  1. Plastic toys can be bought at the toy store.  Don't put any metal in the tank though.

  2. for the background what you can do is find a picture on-line that you like and bring it to Kinko's or something similar and have them enlarge it to the size of the tank and glue it or tank it to the back side of the tank. i would not recommend putting any metal cars in the tank. the rust that will occur with pollute the water and cause illness or death

  3. You have to be VERY careful what you put into your tank - unless it was made specifically for a fishtank then don't use it - most objects contain dangerous metals or may be painted and contain toxins that would kill your fish

    print at kinkos and enjoy!

as for the toys, try not to put anything in there that wasnt meant for a fish tank. A lot of toys and souveniers are not meant to be submerged in water, and their paint may peel off or dissolve and cause the water to become toxic. If you are willing to try this, you can get a toy statue or building, and leave it in water for id say about a week, and then scrub every millimeter of it with a toothbrush

  5. You shouldn't do this. It is not their natural environment and fish should be in their natural environment as much as possible. I don't think that you should put the plastic cars in because you can release chemicals and other things into the water.
