NYC overpopulation?

Ok, I live here but it seems everyone strives to be here for one reason or another. ny is cool but people don't realise that it's definitely not the best city in the US.. anyway, people are coming and the numbers are growing every year and it seems that NYC can face real overpopulation in very near future. don't you think?

it's ridiculous how hard it is to get proper housing just because of the numbers after them, like now- I have to move but it's pretty impossible.

but it's not about the housing. the streets are enough crowded. every place has it's capacity. but people don't seem to understand that.

maybe you can show the real numbers and provide some statistics. thanks!

  1. well, i don't have any #'s, but my sister lives in brooklyn, and she just found out she needs to find a new place.  it's just such a hassle for her.  it's so hard to find a decent place that you can actually afford.

  2. Well, I can't provide you any numbers or statistics but from an environmental and sustainability standpoint, NYC is one of the most environmentally-friendly cities in the US.  High density cities are more sustainable in the long run than sprawling suburbs.  The people who live in NYC have a remarkably low Earth footprint compared to the rest of the nation because they don't tend to own (therefore use) much property, they don't tend to drive, and most construction is vertical, which uses less green space.  The crowding and the prices definitely have a downside, but there are many sustainable practices in NYC that could be a model for other cities across the country.

  3. As Manhatten grows in population the surrounding borros are there to help with runoff.  Brooklyn has areas that are becoming little residential manhattens which will expand as is needed.  Considering that Brooklyn is actually larger than many cities we have considerable run-off space.  This isn't even including Queens and the Bronx.  These places will likely become more and more like Manhatten as the overflow feeds it.

So basically..... buy a condo in Brooklyn if you really think Manhatten is filling up.

  4. Lady D had some pretty profound statements, and maybe it is true, but.....the few times I have been in New York City,  looking at it from a tourist position,  Atlanta is cleaner, and nicer to visit.  God Bless America...

  5. The population of New York is actually about a million less than it was 20-30 years ago.
