NYC rubber play ground mats burn childrens feet?

Apparently parents are outraged about this. The black rubber mats in NYC playgrounds are burning and blistering thier childrens feet. They are demaning that NYC Park Services change out the mats which would cost 1.3 million dollars.

I have another salution, instead of demaning a change out, which the money will come from your taxes, you can do what I do, put some shoes on your child! If they take them off, put them back on, or take them home if they refuse to listen. You're the parent, that means you're the boss! Sounds simple enough to me.

Those people are too affraid of being called a bad parent that they have to blame someone else for thier irresopnsable descisions.

I would like to know everyone else's opinion.

  1. I agree with you, these parents need to chill out and put some shoes on their kids. As for falling and scraping their knees etc big deal, kids fall sometimes and sometimes get scrapes, it's all part of growing up - we live in such a cotton wool society it's sickening. They didn't even have those rubber floors in parks when I was a kid and we all survived it just fine!

  2. Why would a kid be barefoot at a playground???

  3. I have to agree with you my friend. If the mats are burning children's feet, then their parents should tell their kids not to remove their shoes. In the same token, I don't think they will let them play barefoot on a cemented area. As far as the money is concerned, they could use that elsewhere where it's really needed.

  4. i am 15 years old and have burnt my feet several times in these parks (usually because i'm wearing flip flops). i think it would be a worthwhile investment.

also, younger children are more prone to possibly sitting on these mats...which would be bad

  5. i saw that article and i live in nyc.  putting shoes on your kids sounds like a reasonable solution, but what if your kid falls down?  what about their hands and arms and knees?  i don't recall any mention of other body parts getting scalded on the 150 degree rubber mats, but i would assume it would....
