Na Yeon Choi becomes honorary ambassador for Korean Navy
Choi Na-yeon, who performed well in the Kraft Nabisco Championship 2012, has reportedly joined hands with Korean Navy, as she has been made an honorary ambassador.
According to the details, Choi was invited at Korean Navy’s 2nd Fleet Headquarters in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, where she was formally given the honour.
Key Korean Navy officials and Choi’s fans graced the appointment ceremony.
Speaking to the media about the appointment of Choi as an honorary ambassador, a Navy official said that the Korean military is proud of the rising star, which is why they decided to take her on board.
He said that Choi is one of the lucky South Korean golfers who made a name for themselves on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour.
Officials present at the gathering paid homage to the 24-year-old prodigy, saying they look forward to future relationships between Navy and Choi.
"Choi Na-yeon became the 100th Korean winner on the LPGA due to her strong mind, challenging spirit and perseverance," the Navy official said.
He further said that Korean Navy has been seeking to build its image among other sectors, and joining hands with Choi is a step in the right direction.
Officials said that since the rising LPGA star has been involved in charity and voluntary work, they are confident that the partnership will prove beneficial for the player, Navy and the country.
"Moreover, her image fits with the values that the Navy is keen to promote as she's been actively engaging in voluntary work," they said.
Choi recently proved her mettle in the first major tournament of the 2012 season — the Kraft Nabisco Championship. She displayed a superb performance, as she finished tied for the 8th.
She was amazing in the second round, as she carded an impressive 67. She drained 5 birdies and avoided making bogeys.
Expressing her excitement about becoming the honorary ambassador of Korean Navy, Choi said that she has always been proud of her country’s Navy.
“I'm glad that I have been able to realize my mother's frustrate childhood dream of serving in the armed forces. I will do my best to promote our strong and great Navy, which is active worldwide”.
