Na Yeon Choi believes US Open win put her in public eye
South Korean Na Yeon Choi, who snapped up the last title of the 2012 season at Florida two weeks ago, said that her performance at the 2012 US Open was something she still draws plenty of
inspiration from.
Choi capped off the 2012 season in grand fashion as she won the season-ending CME Group Titleholders 2012, but winning her first major title at the 2012 US Women’s Open put her name among
the top-ranked stars.
Choi’s performance was impressive at the CME Group Titleholders 2012 as she grabbed a two-stroke victory against South Korean So Yeon Ryu.
Sharing her thoughts at the end of the tournament, Choi said she had been troubled about her game, but gained confidence after she notched up her maiden major title at the US Open.
The South Korean star said that since major championships typically stage tough competitions, she was a bit nervous at first, but displayed a natural game in all four rounds.
She grabbed a four-shot victory against South Korean Amy Yang who also put her best foot forward, but failed to remain in contention in the final moments.
Choi pointed out that before winning her major title, she was not living in the public eye. However, the triumph came as a big responsibility, as her fans started to put their trust in her
game, expecting her to shine in every tournament.
“Actually, after the U.S. Open, I think I had extra pressure than before.  Lot of people expect me to win again or play well like U.S. Open,” said the 25-year-old golfer who has won a total
of seven Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) titles since turning professional in 2004.
Choi said that although it is hard coping with all the attention and publicity, she has learned a lot after the US Open win. She said that fans’ expectations serve as a good tool for her as
it lets her know when to step up the game and when to hold her nerve.
“They always tell me, like, you played well on Saturday, so just play like that.  I mean, I think that was the great round I had ever, so sometimes I had more pressure than before,” the current
world number two said.
