Na Yeon Choi came close to beating rivals at CN Canadian Women’s Open 2011
South Korean Na Yeon Choi, who stunned the golf after winning her first major title at the US Women’s Open 2012, can prove to be a tough contender at the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, slated to be held next month at Vancouver, Canada.
Choi displayed an electrifying performance in the last edition of the CN Canadian Women’s Open and came close to beating her nearest rivals. However, she could not hold her ground in the final round and marred her position on the leaderboard.
The tournament is scheduled for August 20-26, at The Vancouver Golf Club.
Choi is being regarded as one of the favourite contenders for the coveted title, as she knows the field well. She kicked off the last edition in an impressive style and posted a stunning 68 in the opening round.
An overall 278 in the 2011 edition was a solid score, and analysts said that the South Korean star can repeat her magic again this year.
Getting off to a sensible start, Choi kept the pressure high on her rivals in the second round as well. She shot a 69 on the second day — something that consolidated her position on the leaderboard.
However, the fourth round did not prove to be that lucky for the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) titan, as she recorded a 72, which hampered her from advancing on the leaderboard.
Commentators said that Choi can trouble her rivals at Vancouver next month, provided she keeps her cool and avoids making careless putts.
The reason behind most of the analysts predicting Choi to be a star performer this time too is that she is brimming with confidence after racking up her first LPGA title at the third major tournament of the current season.
In addition to the question of who will steal the show at Vancouver this year, a fight for the top spot in the Women’s World Golf Rankings will move into an even tougher phase, pitting big names against each other.
Choi currently stands at the second spot in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, and she will definitely want to further boost her position by adding more victories to her already-stunning profile.
