Na Yeon Choi eager to beat rivals at British Open 2012
South Korean Na Yeon Choi thinks she is capable of giving a tough time to rivals at the coming Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012, set to be staged from September 13-16, at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Wirral, United Kingdom.
Choi can prove to be a tough contender at the major battle as she kicked off the 2012 season in grand style. The South Korean star won her first major title at the US Women’s Open in July 2012.
Despite having won the major title this year, grabbing the second LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) victory of the current season will be an uphill task for Choi as the British Open field is awash with top-ranked stars.
Key contenders confirmed to grace the Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012 include current world number one Yani Tseng, Suzann Pettersen, Laura Davies, Catriona Matthew, Paula Creamer, Michelle Wie, Ai Miyazato, Melissa Reid and Shanshan Feng.
Choi has been performing well in the current season as she has recorded good finishes in some of the recent tournaments. With a solid strategy for the 2012 season, the 24-year-old is eager to outshine her rivals in every aspect of the game.
The LPGA titan may not be as tough as Yani Tseng or Stacy Lewis of the United States, she has learnt to hold her ground in difficult situations and this experience is likely to help her when she comes face-to-face against her archrivals.
Choi took part in the 2011 edition of the tournament where she displayed a stunning performance. She shot an overall 280 to finish tied for the seventh position on the leaderboard.
Speaking to the media about her plans for the upcoming edition of the major championship, Choi said that she is happy to find another chance to prove her mettle at the tournament.
“I watched Se Ri Pak winning majors when I was growing up and I dreamt that one day I would follow in her footsteps. It was amazing to see her there to greet me on the 18th on Sunday and it made it even more special,” Choi said.
“I am very thankful for all that she has done for Korean golf. I have finished top ten in the last three Ricoh Women’s British Open’s and so I think I have a great chance this year, especially with the added confidence that winning my first major has given me”.
