Na Yeon Choi fails to defend title at Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012
South Korean Na Yeon Choi, who won the last edition of Jamie Farr Toledo Classic in 2010 in grand style, could not keep her momentum going in the 2012 edition of the prestigious tournament as she finished tied
for the 21st spot on the leaderboard after she carded an overall 279.
Choi was among the favourite contenders for the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament, played at Highland Meadows Golf Club, Ohio, but she failed to show her real skills when came face-to-face
against her rivals.
The South Korean was favourite for the coveted title not only because she won the last edition of the tournament, but also because she is one of the few players giving a tough time to current world number one
Yani Tseng in world rankings.
Choi, who was standing firm at the third position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings a week ago, has now tumbled to the fourth after displaying below-average performance at Ohio last Sunday.
Commentators said that Choi might boast a stunning profile and notable accomplishments in recent tournaments she played, but there were several players in the roster of Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012, who had
what it took to rattle their rivals.
Although Choi could not prove her mettle, Asian players have once again proved that they are still as indomitable as they were a month back.
Most of the American stars faltered and finished outside the top 10. Stacy Lewis of the United States, who remained in the headlines before the start of the tournament, could not display her best performance
and finished tied for the 11th position on the leaderboard.
Despite the fact that Lewis could not impress her fans at Ohio last Sunday, she spoke highly of her successes in recent tournaments.
“It's been crazy. I come back every year and I'm playing better and better. It just gets crazier and crazier, so it's a good thing. My family was so supportive all week, and I finally gave them something
to cheer about today. So I'm just happy to finish it off with them, and thank the whole town for their support this week,” said the American star.
Now that Choi has lost a chance to record another victory for the 2012 season, she will have to put her best foot forward in the coming tournaments if she really wants to regain her previous position in the
world rankings.
