Na Yeon Choi gears up for Kia Classic
Na Yeon Choi clearly has had enough of her successes in the world golf recently but being complacent is definitely not on her agenda. She looks forward to coming even stronger in the Kia Classic.
The $1.7 million tournament will take place on March 22-25, at the La Costa Resort and Spa, with leading LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) players.
Choi’s participation is important, as she currently ranks 2nd in the women’s world golf rankings.
Choi has made a solid plan to play this week, but she is expected to meet tough resistance from players like the current world number one Yani Tseng.
Choi has been amazing as she gave a tough time to her rivals last season. She racked up 5 triumphs on the LPGA Tour and displayed stunning performances in the tournaments she played.
However, it is not easy to forecast how she will fare against the competent field in the upcoming event.
Choi, who hails from South Korea, recently revealed her strategy to open the season.
She said that she is well aware of the level of competition and she will not find it easy to play against formidable contenders.
The last edition of the Kia Classic was won by Sandra Gal. The German prodigy stunned her fans, as she shot a 2-foot birdie putt to seize the victory.
The defending champ has vowed to repeat her stellar performance this year too, but how the South Korean star performs is hard to assess.
Choi performed amazingly well in the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup last week. She finished the event as the runner-up. She stunned the spectators with her impressive putts.
The weather at Phoenix troubled many players, but the South Korean remained composed most of the time during the event, playing according to her plans.
Experts are saying that the resilience Choi showed in the tough weather in the Founders Cup will also help her perform well at La Costa.
“I had to do a lot of stretching on the course and I tried to accept this weather," Choi said.
Choi also expressed her surprise in her outstanding performance, saying she played better than her fans had expected.
She added that playing in difficult weather conditions boosted her confidence. “That was my first time playing with the hail”.
