Na Yeon Choi jumps to third position in world rankings
South Korean Na Yeon Choi, who was defending her title at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012 but lost to Inbee Park by two strokes, has risen to the third spot in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
Choi was expected to steal the show at Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2102, held at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, but a runner-up position helped her boost her position by one spot in the world rankings.
American Stacy Lewis, who currently stands second in the Women’s World Rankings, is happy with her performance, but advancement from Choi will definitely trigger her concern.
Choi is better when it comes to total points, as she has earned 474.90, while Lewis has 467.22. Despite this, the American contender is far stronger as she recorded several top-10 finishes in the current season—something helps her remain in the second position.
On the other hand, South Korean Inbee Park won the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012 after posting a total score of 269, and thanks to the victory, she has jumped one spot to fifth position.
Observers said that Choi has shown that she has resilience and she knows how to tackle tough situations. They said if the South Korean star can keep this up, she can knock Lewis off the second spot once again.
A solid performance in Malaysia reflected that Choi is determined to further advance in world rankings. The first round saw her display a very balanced game, posting a 65.
Her swing was good enough to help her handle the ball well on the fairways. On the other hand, the greens also did not offer a tough challenge to the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) giant.
“I think my shot was great today.  I have a lot of birdie chance.  I had a great score, 6-under.  But I feel like I still something left out there.  My shot was great.  I have a lot of birdie chance,” she said at the end of the first round on Thursday.
“But 6-under is always a good score any golf course.  So, no, I feel great.  I'm very happy.  We still have three more rounds, but I have a lot of confidence, especially with this golf course.  So I really looking forward this week”.
