Na Yeon Choi makes it to Evian Masters 2012 roster thanks to US Open win
South Korean Na Yeon Choi, who grabbed the headlines after clinching her first major victory at the US Women’s Open 2012, has made it to the Evian Masters 2012 roster, and it is expected that the upcoming tournament is going to stage a tough battle.
Choi, who has emerged as the most talented and formidable player after current world number one Yani Tseng, is brimming with confidence these days.
The South Korean star never thought that she would be able to beat players like Tseng, Stacy Lewis and Suzann Pettersen, at the major battle held at Blackwolf Run, Kohler.
Now that she has racked up the most prestigious title on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour, she has already qualified for the Evian Masters 2012 — another big LPGA tournament known for its intense competition and fearsome field that usually features top-ranked stars.
The tournament is scheduled to be played from July 26-29, at Evian-les-Bains, France. Tournament officials said that the field has yet to be confirmed, with several prominent LPGA players about to confirm their participation in the tournament.
Analysts said that Choi was expected to make it to the Evian Masters 2012 without even making an effort, as her triumph at the US Women’s Open 2012 was enough to make her eligible for the competitive event set to be staged in France.
Analysts also pointed out that the presence of the young major champion will spice up the Evian Masters. However, the competition level is likely to intensify due to American and European golfers vowing to take revenge of their defeats in recent tournaments.
Speaking to the media at the end of the US Women’s Open 2012, Choi mentioned that thanks to tough training on the practice range, she has been able to beat her battle-hardened rivals, and looks forward to doing the same in the upcoming tournaments.
When asked how well South Koreans are performing on the Tour these days, the young prodigy said that she likes to put her trust in her country’s players, as they are the best so far.
“We just do -- practice hard and working hard and like -- especially this week, the good memory, special memory gave me good confidence, like when I was young, when I watched Se Ri playing, I remember everything. I remember what she -- how she playing on the course,” she said of the US Women’s Open 2012.
