Na Yeon Choi off to a solid start at CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012
South Korean Na Yeon Choi exhibited a solid performance in the opening round of the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012 as she carded a 67 to take the second position on the leaderboard.
Choi, who has been paying well in the current season and has recorded several good finishes on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour so far, kicked off the opening round of the Canadian Women’s
Open 2012 at the Vancouver Golf Club, Canada, in impressive style.
The South Korean star parrd the first hole and drained a birdie on the second. She then parred the next two holes. Despite a strong field that is featuring stars like current world number one Yani Tseng, Ai
Miyazato, Stacy Lewis, Suzann Pettersen, Paula Creamer and Shanshan Feng, the young golfer remained confident throughout the first day and did not let her nerves rattle her.
Choi sent the crowd cheering after she sank three straight birdies on the fifth, sixth and seventh hole. She then parred the next two holes to finish her front nine in grand style.
On the back nine, the LPGA titan looked a little troubled as she could not maintain her momentum on some of the holes. She reeled off birdies on the 11th and 13th, which helped her stay
in contention. However, she failed to judge the ball on the 14th and 15th and ended up carding two bogeys.
Commentators said that Choi’s performance was amazing as she was determined not to surrender to her nerve in a roster packed with formidable contenders.
Although the course was a bit tricky, most of players scored well — something reflecting the next three rounds will stage an even tougher battle.
Speaking to the media about her performance, Choi said that she made a good start, and that is all that matters to her right now.
“Actually I talked to my parents last night. I told them, and they asked me, How is the course? I said the course is very difficult, and I don't know. I could shoot a lower score. I might shoot even par
all day will be my good score,” South Korean prodigy said.
“I didn't expect much to play low scores on this course, but I had a birdie on 2, and then I had three birdies in a row on the front nine”.
