Na Yeon Choi racks up her first major title at US Women's Open 2012
South Korean Na Yeon Choi, who shot a stunning 65 in the third round of the US Women’s Open 2012, surprised her fans in the final round as she walked away with the major title after showing her best performance.
Choi, who got off to a decent star in the third major tournament of the 2012 season, played at Blackwolf Run, maintained her momentum throughout the four days and displayed a better-than-expected performance.
On the other hand, the second spot was seized by another South Korean, Amy Yang, who posted an overall 285.
Yang came close to beating her fellow South Korean, but a couple of lapses in the opening round hampered her from advancing.
The field of the US Women’s Open 2012 was awash with plenty of LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars, but Asian players dominated the leaderboard, with Chinese Shanshan Feng and Mika Miyazato of Japan finishing tied for fourth and seventh position respectively.
Key players such as current world number one Yani Tseng and Stacy Lewis who ranks second in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, could not live up to the expectations of their fans as they finished outside the top 10.
Tseng, who was regarded as the strongest in the roster of the US Women’s Open 2012, finished tied for the 50th position on the leaderboard.
On the other hand, American Lewis struggled to prove her worth throughout the four days, but the best she could do was finishing tied for the 46th spot.
Choi, who racked up her first major title, was more than happy after hoisting the trophy. Speaking to the media after the presentations ceremony, the South Korean star said that her game was exceptionally good at the match and she did what her fans wanted her to do.
She pointed out that one important factor that played its part in her winning the prestigious tournament was her perfect swing.
“I think my swing was a little quick, so my ball started to the little bit left. And then the wind from off right-to-left, so ball moved to the left. And then my ball carry over the hazard left side,” the major winner said.
“That moment maybe I thought I might s***w up today, but I thought I needed to fix that. I can do it. So I tried to think what I have to do”.
