Na Yeon Choi rises to second position in world rankings thanks to major triumph
South Korean Na Yeon Choi, who racked up her first major title at the US Women’s Open 2012 last week, has risen to the second position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
Choi displayed an electrifying performance in all the four rounds of the third major tournament of the season, staged at Blackwolf Run, Kohler.
However, what has caught her fans and rivals by utter surprise is a steep jump in her world ranking, and the South Korean star is now keen to move ahead by recording more victories.
The US Women’s Open, one of the most prestigious events on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour, featured a fearsome field as usual, but the final results were at odds with the predictions.
Despite most of the analysts and golf crazy fans betting on players like current world number one Yani Tseng and American Stacy Lewis, Choi came out as the star performer, cutting her rivals down to size.
Analysts said that since the major winner has now increased her ranking in the world, it has become crucial for her to fix flaws in her putting and swing.
Although fired up following the major tournament, there is still plenty of work to be done regarding her game and work ethic.
Analysts also pointed out that Tseng might not have lived up to the expectations of her fans at Kohler, she still has what it takes to trouble rivals — and this is what Choi should keep an eye on.
The South Korean prodigy has been working hard on the practice range, and she claims that she has been able to fix some fatal flaws in her game.
Assisted by her talented coaches, Pia Nilsson and Lynn Mariott, Choi is fast improving her game. Speaking to the media about how her coaches have motivated her, the 24-year-old golfer said that she is really proud of their mentors and likes to be advised by them.
“They always gave me good advice about really small goal. They said I need to have a small goal every day. And last night they text me,” Choi said.
“They were watching on TV, and they say like you did a good job on third round, but you have to play one more round. So it's not done. So they said sometime you have to forget good day too”.
