Na Yeon Choi works on her golf and language skills
Na Yeon Choi has been working hard on her game. But as the season comes to a close, we are surprised to find out it is more than just her game that has been the object of incessant devotion:
English.
Se Ri Pak has long been encouraging South Korean Players to brush up their language skills, particularly English, which for many South Koreans, is a second, or at times, a third language.
English, the lingua franca that it is, is an important means of communication. At most international events, the English tongue is usually the one used by players of all nationalities to
express themselves.
South Koreans had shied away from public appearances after the game, be it a quick chat with the media persons or a post game press conference and interview. The reason of course was a lack
of confidence.
That seems to have changed now. Na Yeon Choi has arranged for the South Korea-based Canadian Greg Morrison to give her daily hour long lessons in English. The days he cannot be on the road
with her, they usually talk over Skype.
She said that they did not just limit their conversation to golf alone. Morrison acts more like a manager, sometimes even an assistant. To illustrate, she shared that she had been looking
to purchase a house and could not really make up her mind as to which house to buy.

Morrison helped her decide which house she liked and which suited her needs best.  “He’s more like, not just English tutor; he's more like manager or assistant to me".
The arrangement seems to be working just fine for Na Yeon Choi, who spoke rather well in an interview at the Morning Drive.
"First year when I was here, I couldn't speak English well and then very hard to tell my feelings to people, even media or fans or even swing coach," Choi said.

"When I learned English and when I tell my feelings to people, I feel way more comfortable than before. I think that made it good golfer, too. And on the golf course, I can relax and I can
talk with the other players".
