Naazim Richardson claims his boxer Bernard Hopkins is one of the best – Boxing news
Naazim Richardson, who is the trainer of the current World Boxing Council and The Ring Light Heavyweight champion, Bernard Hopkins, has claimed his fighters is one of the greatest athletes of the era and also one of the greatest personalities of all times.
The Bad, Dawson, is set to face the Executioner, Hopkins, in a 12-round bout for the Ring and WBC light heavyweight titles this weekend on October 15, 2011 in Los Angeles, California. Richardson reckons Dawson will come across as one of the greatest of all
times.
Though Richardson admitted he has a lot of respect for Dawson, he said there is nothing about Hopkins which people have not heard.
“What do you say about Bernard Hopkins that you haven’t already heard? He is not only one of the greatest athletes of this era; he is one of the greatest personalities,” Richardson said. “Come Saturday, Dawson, who I have a great deal of respect for, is
going to look across the ring in the eyes of one of the greatest of all time.”
Dawson in the press-conference insisted he does not like to do any trash talk ahead of his fights, as he stated a silent storm is more dangerous.
Richardson though does not agree with Dawson because according to him, creating hype ahead of the bout attracts a lot of people and it also sells the fight. Richardson remarked the sport of pugilism needs to have a bit of spark.
He said, “He always has a sound bite for you that are going to carry the promotion. This is important for boxing because we need that spark. Everyone needs to recognize what you are watching what you are witnessing.”
The 46-year-old Hopkins became the oldest boxer ever to win a heavyweight title when he beat Jean Pascal in May 2011 and this is Hopkins’ first historic title defence. Therefore, he will certainly put in all of his experience but still it has to be seen
if Hopkins can really make history once again.
