Nacho Beristain: Pacquiao-Marquez better than Pacquiao-Bradley rematch – Boxing News
Juan Manuel Marquez’s camp has been pushing the idea of a fourth fight between Pacquiao and Marquez for quite some time now. Marquez is eager to prove his mettle against Pacquiao, even though he has lost two out of three fights against the Filipino. In a
recent interview, Nacho Beristain, Marquez’s trainer, spoke on the behalf of his fighter, claiming that a fourth episode of Marquez vs. Pacquiao will be more entertaining for the fans than Pacquiao’s rematch against Bradley.
He added, “Bob Arum and Fernando Beltran, the promoters for Pacquiao and Marquez, are intelligent and looking for good profits. I think it’s better to make the fourth fight between Marquez and Pacquiao. Right now, there is an 80% chance. It’s a fight that
generates more public interest and more money than a rematch with Timothy Bradley.”
It should be noted here that team Pacquiao is already considering a rematch against Marquez but they have not given a positive response yet. Bob Arum, promoter for Pacquiao, revealed earlier this week that a fight against Marquez is possible. According to
Arum, after Bradley’s split decision win against Pacquiao, fans are no longer interested in a rematch between the both. Arum wants both the fighters, Pacquiao and Bradley, to build some credibility before they move on to a rematch.
On the other hand, Manny Pacquiao, the Filipino former WBO welterweight titlist, sounds eager to take on Bradley again to get back his title. Last week, after the WBO announced results of its review of the Pacquiao vs. Bradley bout, crowning Pacquiao the
victory, the Filipino promised his fans that he would get the title back home.
For now, Pacquiao is heading towards meeting Bob Arum next week to discuss his next fight. As much as Arum believes a rematch will not be a big seller, Pacquiao wants it to happen. After the humiliation Pacquiao went through, when he lost to Bradley was
something he is not used to. He has always been victorious among the best fighters of the world and losing to Bradley was a slap on his face. Probably, if not a Bradley rematch then Pacquiao will settle for a Marquez rematch.
