No question about this, we just witnessed one of the greatest matches of all time. There is no "open era" or "men's matches" or "wimbledon finals", the term that belongs there is simply "match". I haven't watched the sport for decades or anything but it was the greatest match that I've seen live or at a later date. Nadal getting off to the great start, Federer clinging to his last strand of hope for two sets and the incredibly tense fifth set. Not to mention all the nerve-racking time during the rain delays. And of course, since I'm a Fed fan, my favorite part was the post-match celebrations with both players being incredibly classy and respectful. I think even if you hate Federer as a player you had to feel for him when he couldn't continue with the interview with McEnroe because the tears were starting to run, genuine tears of sadness. The tears of joy for Nadal were almost as touching and probably moreso to some people. I'd love to hear all your thoughts.

  1. was federre crying?wow! When was the interview?

  2. I didn't have a clear favorite, but by the time the fifth set started I really wanted Roger Federer to win. I feel that it wasn't just about defending his title for him. It was in many ways about defending his honor. Both players put out such an enormous effort! It was breathtaking and humbling... I want to say congrats to Rafa Nadal and also express my support for Roger Federer in this difficult time. It's been amazing watching those two battle it out, but it was deeper than just a game, and let's all remember that. I feel a lot of positive emotions towards both tennis players and wish them both luck in the future.

  3. that was the greatest match i have ever watched

  4. I feel so horribly for Federer... so horribly... I think Rafa could have done a better job on sportsmanship rather than jumping in his own glee.

  5. i jumped for joy because i couldnt stand to see federer win again

  6. What a great match for Nadal to end his two week run at Wimbledon! It was so tense, I almost couldn't watch.

  7. I didn't know Fed cried thats really sad. I don't think he should be too upset because although he was beaten by a kittens whisker, he has so much to be proud of. Surely he has silenced his critics who said he couldnt win another grand slam because he obviously can. I think this match was awesome, and I'm a huge Fed fan. well done 2 Rafa he was the better man at the right times, but I hope Federer doesn't get too upset over this loss, cos his reign isnt over yet.

  8. This match was unique. All the rain delays and both players were still giving their all even after playing 6 hours. I felt bad for Federrer but happy for Nadal. I wanted Federrer to win but who cares after that incredible match. I predict Federrer will beat down Nadal in the US Open.
