Nadal and Federer all set to get their game on - this time for charity
Next week will see some summer blockbuster worthy action on the tennis courts. Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are all set to battle it out once again, only this time they are doing it for charity.
Both tennis stars will be playing in a pair of exhibition matches and the events will be sponsored by the other’s personal charity.
The first event will take place on the coming Tuesday in Zurich’s Hallenstadion. The funds raised from this event will go to the Roger Federer Foundation. This foundation operates mainly in South Africa which is his mother’s native land. The following day
the magic will move to a new location; Madrid's Caja Magica for the Fundacion Rafael Nadal.
It goes without saying that the event is already creating a lot of buzz all over the world. Let’s just face it, half of us tennis fans watch the game just to see the rivalry between the two unfold before us. This is exactly the opportunity we have been waiting
for since the World Tour Finals, which was the last time we saw the two play against each other.
As far as promotions for the matches are concerned, Nadal has been doing a pretty good job advertising them in Spain in an interview.
“Both in Spain and Switzerland people have turned to the charity match,”
he said. "It is a nice project (which) Roger and I look forward to, I am proud to help.”
The Spaniard also revealed that his mother has been looking after the Madrid side of affairs for the charity for weeks. He went on to say that charity work was the most important part of his life away from the tennis courts. The
numero uno tennis player in the world claims that the work his charity does is going to be the most important part of his future. “I have a special fondness for children, we focus a lot on them, they are the main thing. The more income we have,
the more we can help.”
In the little off time that the players have had since the season has ended, Federer has been enjoying a brief holiday in the Seychelles. His presence proved to be an excellent photo opportunity for the island’s tourism minister.
Nadal, on the other hand, was busy being honoured by his hometown Manacor, which is situated on the Mallorca Island. The player has lived there his entire life and plans to keep it that way.
When asked about the event, Federer had the following to say “I always enjoy playing Rafa on the big stages and it is especially exciting when we can do it to help raise monies for our foundations. I'm sure that the fans in Zurich, Madrid and those around
the world who will catch it on TV or the internet will see some exciting tennis for a great cause.”
The exhibition matches should definitely make an interesting watch. This year has seen the competition between the two players reach epic proportions. The Spaniard finally dethroned the Swiss player from the World Number One spot. Many fans had begun to
speculate whether the legend Roger Federer was finally done. Federer effectively put the speculations to rest with his sensational win over Nadal at the end of season World Tour Finals. He proved to the world yet again that he still had some game left in him.
Throughout the years the matches between the two tennis greats have made the most epic watches. Though this match may be of the friendly variety and for a great cause to boot; we are ready to bet our year’s salary on the fact that we will see the great rivalry
between the two emerge full swing during the course of the charity event.
