Nadal playing left-handed is an advantage

playing left handed when you are right handed means that you really have to build that arm up(more power then a natural) and to control those shots you would have to put a lot of top spin on the ball right. That top spin gives Roger trouble that no one else can.

Donald young is left handed and he puts a lot of top spin on the ball also not as much as nadal but if you see him play he puts a lot of top spin on the ball.

What do you think about this theory. (Fed 4 ever)

  1. Nadal has a legendary style of play.

If he were a righty, he wouldn't be as sucessful and his Uncle Tony knew that and made him hit with his left. The reason that it gives him an advantage is because of the way he hits.

Most players (Djokovic and Federer are perfect examples) have the standard forhand with perfect form. Low to high and over the shoulder. Nadal on the other hand has the wiper-motion which isn't a low to high, but more like a side-side motion. As a result he gets so much more topspin as well as a nice little curve to it.

Now if you can imagine for a second playing against a guy that has the ball spin the opposite way (due to the fact he's lefty) but in addition to that, it kicks up at you? That's why he's so effective on clay, with all that crazy topspin, the ball bounces even higher and sharper to a player's backhand (the hardest shot in tennis to hit)

The reason Young isn't as good is because he has the standard low to high motion (and a lot of faults in his game)

  2. Most players are right handed, they mostly play right handed players, thus when they play a left handed, they get confused. Left handers can also use some unusual shots, angles and effects. When you're a talented left hander, you're a real danger for other players.

  3. whatever

  4. Yes, he does have  an advantage as most right handers have a weaker side, sometimes the backhand , so with Rafa serving to their backhand  he'll win more points. It also enables him to play those wide angle shots.

  5. The theory makes sense to me...lefties play righties most of the time, but righties play lefties only once in a while. So lefties have a huge advantage because more often than not, they are more used to the opponents' spins and shot placement than vice versa.

Donald Young has promise, but has a loooooong way to go to reach Nadal's level. :)

  6. its an advantage
