Nadal wins the Overseas Sports Personality of the Year award
The current World No.1, Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal has been honoured by receiving the Overseas Sports Personality of the Year award.
No doubt the current year has been the best year in the career for the twenty four year old as he was successfully able to usurp the world number one tennis rank from the tennis legend Roger Federer. Moreover, the Spanish superstar
has also won six titles this year including three major Grand Slams.
After receiving the award, the Spanish veteran told the media that the award is no less than an honour for him and it has given him a new inspiration for his career. Rafael Nadal said that it is a dream come true for him that he
has been included in the list of the top players of the world.
Nadal is now one of the seven tennis players in the history of tennis to complete the set of Grand Slams. Now, the current world champ is aiming to break the record of his veteran arch rival Roger Federer. It is also to be noted
that Federer has won sixteen Grand Slam titles in his superb tennis career and Rafael Nadal has won nine titles but according to some sports and media critics, Rafael Nadal is still young and the way he is playing his game he will certainly overtake the record
of the Swiss tennis giant Roger Federer.
Roger Federer, while talking to the media, expressed his thoughts and admired the game of Rafael Nadal. Federer said that Nadal is still young and his consistently awesome performances are great proof of his remarkable abilities.
Roger continued that Nadal truly deserved the award of the Overseas Sports Personality of the Year. Federer was also of the view that Nadal was no doubt the best player of 2010.
It is worth mentioning that Nadal was plagued by many injuries and personal issues last year. Moreover, he was forced to miss the Wimbledon Grand Slam as well. But he has recovered well and his enormous recovery has no doubt been
brilliant. Nadal is the first tennis male player after Rod Laver to win three major Grand Slams in a year.
The twenty three year old Serbian number one tennis ace, Novak Djokovic also expressed his views about Nadal. The current World No.3 Djokovic paid tribute to Nadal while talking to the media and said that Nadal is a great player
and his abilities cannot be questioned. Djokovic added that the best thing about Rafael Nadal is his consistency. He said that Nadal has played consistently well throughout his career. The Serb is of the view that the Spanish champ is a true example of a champion
tennis player as Nadal has proven himself time and time again.
On the other hand, the twenty three year old British tennis star Andy Murray also seemed impressed with the game of Rafael Nadal. The current World No.4 said that Nadal always gives a very serious challenge to his opponents during
a match. Murray said that Rafael takes every match like it’s going to be his last and always gives his best. Murray continued that no doubt the Spaniard is one the best players in tennis history.
Awards are a source of appreciation for the players and the award of the Overseas Sports Personality of the Year has given a boost to Rafael Nadal and now the Spanish ace will give his best in the upcoming events. As a fan of this
