Nadeen el-Dawlatly, Lashin el-Sayed of Egypt progress at 2011 World Table Tennis Championships
Egyptian Nadeen el-Dawlatly and Lashin el-Sayed have progressed at the ongoing GAC Group 2011 World Table Tennis Championships.
The two players proved that although they are new in the circuit, they have the capability to outshine the rest. Most of the players from Egypt gave their best in the championship.
Nadeen el-Dawlatly made a place in the Women’s Singles main draws. It was a surprise performance from the young player. She beat Gulchekhra Khusainova from Kazakhstan in straight games with final scores of 12-10, 11-3, 11-2 and 11-4 in the group rounds.
In the second match of the group round, she beat Diana Rusinova from Latvia in a match of five games. With the two wins, she finished as the top seed in the group round.
In the first preliminary stage match, Nadeen faced Kristina Vaskeviciute. The match extended to six games. She is the only Egyptian player who emerged successful at the end of the day. She will be facing Melek Hu from Turkey in the first round of the Women’s
Singles main draws.
Nadeen el-Dawlatly expressed her views on winning a place at the main draws and said that it was very hard to qualify.
The other player who will be featuring in the Men’s Singles event was Lashin el-Sayed, who earned a direct entry in to the main draws. He did not have to compete in the qualification rounds. He will fight against Chuang Chih-Yuan of Chinese Taipei in his
opening match of the Men’s Singles main draw.
Nadeen el-Dawlatly and Dina Meshref are the two players from Egypt who have made an impression on the International Table Tennis Federation Junior Girls circuit. Dina finished the first seed in her group and progressed to the preliminary rounds. In the first
match of the group round, she defeated Mie Jacobsen from Denmark with a match score of 4-1. In the second match, Arjeta Trstena lost in straight games against Dina.
In the preliminary round fate betrayed the young Egyptian girl and she faced defeat while competing against Malin Pettersson from Sweden in straight games, 11-6, 11-2, 11-6 and 11-3.
In the Mixed Doubles category, Sara Hassan partnered Omar Assar and won against the Dutch pair of Koen Hageraats and Britt Eerland. The match extended to full seven games, but the Egyptian players won the match by winning the decider game.
The Egyptian players had a reason to smile as most of them contested in the debut World Table Tennis Championship of their playing career. The mega event will conclude on May 10, 2011.
