Nader el Masri says he has no place to train for London Olympics 2012
Nader el Masri, the long distance runner from Gaza Strip has recently acknowledged the fact that it is a difficult task to train for the London 2012 Olympic Games given the conditions of the Gaza Strip.
This poses as a dilemma for the long distance runner as he has the willingness and ability to compete in the Olympic Games but lacks the training grounds for it.
Nader is a specialist of 5000-metre runs but the region of Palestine does not provide him with the facilities to prepare himself for such a run at a professionally competitive level of the sport.
At this point in time, Nader has only two options that he can avail in order to prepare himself for the Olympic Games. One of these so called training venue is track situated in Palestine. The track is made of tartan and it circles the entire length of the
football stadium of the Gaza City. Other than that, the coastline of the Mediterranean beach that runs along with the city of Gaza provides a long stretch on which to run on.
The lack of training facilities is not the only dilemma that the star athlete faces. There is no coach available in the city that can provide training according to his calibre. Therefore, the long distance runner has taken up the task to train himself. Nader
hopes to make the qualifications of the Olympics by self-managed training.
There is not only a lack of training facilities and coaching services, but the Gaza region also does not provide with enough competitive chances in order to excel oneself. There are no races in the region that can make Nader compete with athletes of his
calibre.
Nader explained the bleak conditions of the Gaza Strip and said, “I have a coach but there's nobody at my level in Gaza. I have to do most of my training sessions on my own.”
There is not much time for Nader to prepare for the upcoming Olympics that are going to take place in London next year, starting from the July 27th.
