Nadia Petrova achieves untarnished victory over Jarmila Gajdosova in 1st round – Rogers Cup 2011
Initiating on the 8th of August 2011 was the first round of Rogers Cup 2011 between Russian, Nadia Petrova and Australian, Jarmila Gajdosova at the Rexall Centre in York University, Toronto, Canada. Petrova won the match in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 in just 53 minutes of play.
Both the players geared up to contest each other. Winning the pitch and serving first was Gajdosova’s first performance had won her only eight out of sixteen service points and  could only win eight out of sixteen service points along with a weaker return serve, attaining only 33% of total return points, she was not able to save her break points.
The two had struck one double fault each but Petrova was not able to smash an ace and managed to win a hundred percent of her break point opportunities.
Moreover, the 29-year-old Russian bagged 67% of her total service points because of her excellent serve and like a brick wall that stood at the back of the wall she recoiled most of her Aussie opponent’s shots, and therefore, was able to achieve 50% of her total return points. She won the set with flawless victory of 1-0 due to a strong defence that did not fail her instead it facilitated her by not giving a single break point chance to her opponent.
Standing her ground firmly she did not let tiredness come over her instead she stood her ground firmly and won sixty seven percent of her break points. On her serve Petrova did not give a single break point to her opponent and with an expert serving technique she saved all the three break points.
She put her opponent to shame by wining 74% of her total serve points along with a great return that enabled her to outshine her opponent.
Although, the crowds applauded her to see her victory in the second set, but that was only left to imagination! As Gajdosova was slow as a slug and could only muster 16 of 44 total set points, which were almost half of Petrova’s.
Amidst the second set, Gajdosova struck seven double faults, and so it seemed the ball was attracted to the net. With a poor return game along with a mediocre serve she was unable to save 2 of her break points, which was another frustration that she faced with and thus she lost the set 6-2
The 24-year-old, Gajdosova tried her best but she was ousted by her 29-year-old competition Nadia Petrova. The Russian will now face her compatriot Vera Zvonareva in the second round of the Rogers Cup 2011.
